Cole Sprouse Responds to "Kim Possible" Casting Backlash

"You’re talking about kids who are likely happy to have gotten the job. Kids who, in some way, might hear you."

Cole Sprouse is not here for social media haters — especially when that hate is directed at teenage celebrities.

The Riverdale star took to Twitter yesterday, April 27, to respond to fans who were criticizing the casting for the new live-action Kim Possible movie. While plenty of people are excited about Sadie Stanley and Sean Giambrone taking on the roles of Kim and Ron, respectively, some others —namely, adults who grew up with the original series — were unhappy, claiming that the casting "didn't align" with their memory of the show.

Cole soon jumped into the Twitter dialogue, with an important message for the fans hating on the casting news. "Lot of adults in this post directing hate towards a couple kids simply because their cartoon doesn’t look the same anymore," he commented in his tweet, adding that people posting negative messages "need to grow the hell up." He went on to say: "You’re talking about kids who are likely happy to have gotten the job. Kids who, in some way, might hear you."

And Cole certainly has a point. Cyber-bullying celebrities is never OK, but it's especially wrong when those celebrities are also teenagers. At the end of the day, those celebrities are regular teenagers just like all other young people, and just as importantly, they're human like the rest of us. Additionally, while it's understandable to have good memories of your favorite show as a kid (we all do), it's not an excuse to direct hate towards anyone — celebrity, or not.

It seems like a lot of people could learn a thing or two from Cole; hopefully the Riverdale star's words will resonate with the haters and next time, they'll think before they tweet.
