Cole Sprouse Reportedly Initiated the Breakup with Lili Reinhart

• An insider recently told People that the couple's relationship was "super heavy" in the time leading up to their split.

It appears Cole Sprouse was the bringer of bad news. A source told E! News that the Riverdale actor was the one who ended the two-year relationship with costar Lili Reinhart earlier this summer, breaking fans' hearts all across the Internet.

"Their relationship has always been up and down," the insider said. "They split this time after an argument while on their break from filming. Cole decided to end the relationship."

Though they might've split during their time off-set, the costars and now-exes are currently working together now that Riverdale Season 4 is in production. Reinhart tweeted on July 5 that she'd returned to Vancouver, where the show is filmed, to shoot the next chapter of the hit CW series.

A source told People recently that "things have felt super heavy in [Lili and Cole's] relationship for a while, and it got to be too much," hence why they ultimately split. However, they're keeping things "very professional" and "trying to be as amicable and friendly as possible."

The former couple showed us some of that professionalism (albeit with a bit of awkwardness) when they appeared at San Diego Comic-Con together over the weekend, along with other cast members. They even sat next to each other at a panel. Reinhart reflected on the event with a sense of humor, posting a photo of her with Sprouse and costar KJ Apa on Instagram with the caption, "Please don't put me between these two ever again."
