Colby Stevenson, of Olympic slopestyle big air fame, is once again pushing the envelope.

Watch as this generation-defining talent lands a next-level trick.

That's gotta be a world's first. In my many years of freeskiing content consumption, I've never seen someone break up a double cork 1440 with a butter. Truly mind-blowing stuff.

You know how I can tell this is incredibly gnarly, besides the obvious fact that this trick looks crazy at first glance? Colby lands a little off balance.

Why is that significant? Cobly isn't the sort of skier who lands tricks off balance. He stomps doubles, even triples, casually in most cases. Therefore, the fact that he wasn't totally in control during this trick indicates he was working to put it to his feet. And if someone with Colby's repertoire is struggling, you know whatever they're doing is gnarly.

There were a few years after the first triple cork was landed when I felt that freeskiing's progression was stalling a bit. It wasn't clear where the sport could go next.

However, recently, with the ever-expanding talents of skiers like Colby Stevenson, it's clear we've entered another golden age of freeskiing progression where creativity and technicality reign.

It's no longer just about how much you can spin and flip. Looking at the available features to devise new, physics-bending tricks is now king, and I'm here for it.
