Cody Townsend's 'Line Of The Year' From 2014 Still Reigns Supreme

These days, pro skier Cody Townsend is known for tackling grueling backcountry challenges on his web series "The Fifty."

Initially, though, he rose to prominence as a hard-charging, no hecks given big mountain skier. This line, which appeared in Matchstick Productions' "Days of My Youth," perfectly encapsulates the madcap skiing Townsend used to partake in.

If you've already seen it, watch it again. If you haven't, take a seat; this one will knock your socks off.

The simple act of getting down this one without eating rock is a feat in and of itself. Townsend would've been deservedly lauded if he took it slow, patiently hop-turning through the narrow chute.

But no. He needed to go fast. Like really, really fast. Townsend skied this gnarly line with the nitrous meter cranked to 11, producing one of the most incredible ski movie shots of the past decade.

I don't remember what I was doing when this video first started making the rounds on the internet. All I know is that after I watched it, I spent a few minutes peeling my jaw off the floor.

As noted before, Cody's since slowed things down a bit, directing his energy towards "The Fifty." While the routes featured in this web series aren't as adrenaline-laced as the "Best Ski Line of 2014", they're still incredibly impressive, requiring Cody to draw on a different, more patient set of skills like trip management, glacier travel, and risk assessment.
