Coco Gauff might only be 19 years old, but she has achieved more this past year than most people dream of doing in their life. The star athlete has been winning big titles all year long, and she just clinched the one for "highest paid female athlete," according to Sportico.

For two decades, either Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, or Naomi Osaka held that title—but there’s a new tennis queen in town this year: Coco Gauff. Make no mistake, the American tennis player has been busy both on and off the court, padding her legacy and bank account with some major Ws.

The teenager won the first Grand Slam of her career in September, beating No.1 Aryna Sabalenka and securing the 2023 US Open women’s singles titles. Of course, on top of a shiny new trophy, Coco earned a nice amount of prize money and an invitation into the exclusive Grand Slam champions club, according to Business Insider. She's also scored some pretty impressive endorsements—racking up $22.7 million in combined earnings this year alone, per Sportico.

Coco is currently competing at the Australian Open, and if she comes out on top, she’ll win a pretty hefty prize amount. All eyes are on the tennis star right now, and she's definitely been making her mark in the world. But how much does she actually earn? And how much is she worth now that she has a Grand Slam in her back pocket?

Coco has been playing in tournaments since age 12.

If you watched the US Open this year, you definitely saw a viral video of a young Coco dancing around in the stands back in 2012. This woman has been a *long* time tennis fan.

Coco decided to focus on tennis in 2011, at just seven years old. By 12, she was playing in tournaments. At around 15, she started competing professionally, quickly catching the world's attention when she upset seven-time Grand Slam champion and former world No.1 Venus Williams at Wimbledon in 2019, per Business Insider. She is now, officially, the youngest American to bring home the silver trophy at the tournament since Serena Williams'iconic 1999 win.

Her success, WTA rankings, and amount of endorsement deals steadily increased after that major win, and they've only continued in the past four years.

She could earn $3.15 million if she wins the Australian Open.

Coco started her journey at the Australian Open by defeating 68th-ranked Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia in the first round, per NBC Sports. She also won her second round against 42nd-ranked Caroline Dolehide from Hinsdale, Illinois on January 16.

The athlete will have to survive the next five rounds to win the tournament, as well as $3.15 million in prize money, according to The Sporting News.

She brought home $3 million after winning the US Open.

Coco didn't just win a lifetime of bragging rights (although that's pretty incredible) for her big win this summer at the 2023 US Open. The 19-year-old also received $3 million in prize money after defeating Aryna Sabalenka.

Obviously, everyone was really curious to know what she would decide to spend her chunk of change on. So, on Instagram after the big win, Coco explained that "there’s nothing crazy materialistic that I really want.” She continued: “I’m very satisfied with all that I have. I don’t want anything crazy.”

She makes a lot from endorsement deals.

This isn't anything new for a big shot like Coco. Lots of famous athletes make money from sponsorships and endorsement deals.

When she's not sweating it out on the court, Coco has established a few long-term partnerships with brands like New Balance, Baker Tilly, Bose, Rolex, Barilla, and UPS. Sportico reported that of her $22.7 million earnings this year, $16 million of that is solely from endorsements.

On January 13, Coco collaborated with Bose on an Instagram post promoting the brand's QuietComfort Ultra Headphones.

Coco also has an endorsement deal with Ray-Ban and Meta for their new smart glasses. In an Instagram video, Coco promoted the new glasses while letting viewers know that she’s more than just a tennis player.

“Nothing’s better for my game than taking my mind off my game,” she said in the video. “When I was younger, a lot of people used to think I lived and breathed and ate tennis…I just feel like people only see the work on the court, but don’t realize how many things I like to do off the court. I like to do a lot of things, I just don’t necessarily always share that stuff about myself.”

Coco continued, “People think athletes in general, we only do our sport and that’s it. But it’s definitely not, we’re people too… I do things that normal teenagers do.”

New Balance is one of her biggest sponsors, and Coco has been working with them since 2108, right before she defeated Venus Williams at Wimbledon, according to the New Balance Press Box. She sports their clothing and shoes during matches, and even has her own signature shoe, the New Balance Coco CG1.

Coco's New Balance sneakers went on sale in 2022, making her one of two active players to design a signature sneaker of her own, per Forbes. Everyone seemed pretty eager to get their hands on a pair after she won the US Open.

Oh, and she just released a new pair of shoes with New Balance.

On January 13, 2024, Coco and New Balance dropped a new shoe collaboration, CG1. The shoe is influenced by the profile of a basketball sneaker combined with a ‘90s vibe.

The athlete gave her Instagram followers a behind-the-scenes look at the new kicks with pictures from her photoshoot for New Balance Tennis. “New CG1 dropping tomorrow🥵,” Coco wrote in the caption.

Coco loves fashion, and it may be a future business endeavor.

If you follow Coco on Instagram, you know that she has a passion for fashion. This past Christmas, she shared an Instagram of herself standing in a model-like pose, wearing a school-girl chic look.

Coco acknowledged that while she loves fashion and makeup, “I just haven't really thought about how I would build that into a brand, per se.”

“But I think it just comes with growth,” Coco continued during the press conference. I mean, I'm at the age right now where I'm really trying to find myself I guess outside of tennis because I do want to venture out into other things. I just haven't found what really speaks to me.”

She lives at home with her parents still.

After her US Open win, Coco went live on Instagram and shared that despite her big earnings, she still lives at home. In fact she has no intention of moving out until she's 21. Then she will consider investing in her own pad, according to Business Insider. So, this athlete has no big real estate purchases to report on just yet.

Coco's been saving up her money.

On the Tennis.com podcast, Coco explained that she's not one to throw money around. “When I had my first Grand Slam check, I wanted a car but my dad had already bought it and, I don’t know what to buy now.”

On Instagram live after her US Open win, she told the viewers “I always said when I won my first Grand Slam I would do a crazy purchase, but I don’t really have anything that I really want to buy, so…”

The star also said that she works so hard she hasn't actually taken a real vacation before (especially one that doesn't involve tennis), so her big plans involved some scheduled R&R.
