Cobra Kai fans, the final season is quickly upon us and the man behind Daniel LaRusso has some words for you.

In late January, Netflix announced that the show was renewed for season 6 but it would be the last one. While the shocking news broke all over the internet, actor Ralph Macchio took to Instagram to share his own words about the series ending. Apart from posting the official announcement video featuring a montage of iconic clips from the entire Karate Kid franchise, he also wrote a short and sweet message.

“Here we go fans!!” he captioned it on January 20. “It’s time to finish the fight. The sixth and final season of COBRA KAI is coming soon to Netflix🥋.”

As one would expect, the Cobra Kai fandom immediately began pouring their hearts out about the end of an era in his Instagram comments section.

“Sad to see it end, but what a hell of a ride!” one person wrote. “Can’t believe we have to say goodbye to Daniel soon ❤️,” another lamented. “This is wrong, the series should get at least 10 seasons,” a different user added.

As folks are aware, Ralph’s journey with The Karate Kid franchise goes back to June 1984, when the original film debuted alongside his costar William Zabka. The actor then starred in two more movies before portraying Daniel on the popular TV show. What’s more, Ralph published a memoir in October 2022 about how the first film changed his life, titled Waxing On: The Karate Kid and Me.

Despite the show getting karate chopped after six seasons, Ralph promised there is still a lot more to learn from the series. As he said to Us Weekly in October 2022, the writers are listening to what viewers want out of Daniel, Johnny Lawrence and all of their students.

“These guys, Jon [Hurwitz], Josh [Heald] and Hayden [Schlossberg], who write this show, are just so great at [having] their finger on the pulse of what the fans want,” he told the outlet. “They are the fans themselves....There’s more meat on the bones there. But it’s gotta be entertaining and organic and I think there’s plenty of places to go every season.”
