Coachtopia, the circular fashion initiative from luxury brand Coach, just launched its latest campaign featuring four upcycling designers as the stars and co-creators of the collection. As we think about the future of sustainability, especially in the fashion industry, Coachtopia is looking to do its part in bringing new life into what once would be considered waste.
A year into Coachtopia’s launch, the brand is continuously positioning itself next to Gen Z, utilizing its expertise and platforms to push a more sustainable fashion industry. For this latest collection, the brand looked to their Gen Z Coachtopia community to put a fresh spin on their Ergo Bags — a popular shoulder purse style made with at least 50% recycled leather fibers from scraps — and Coachtopia tees.
Among the creatives tapped for Coachtopia's new collab is Tade Kayode Newman, a London-based designer and upcycler. She embellished the Coachtopia Crinkle Patent Leather Ergo bags with spikes made in 100% recycled PET plastic.
Anna Molinari, on the other hand, is a NYC-based designer and upcycler. She redesigned the second Ergo Bag with grommets perfect for those who want to continue down a more edgy fashion look.
Next is Zizi Zeng, a Chinese-born, NYC-based fashion blogger and student who designed the third and final Ergo bag using lace bows — perfect for fans of the coquette aesthetic. Last but not least is Sabrina Lau, a NYC-based graphic designer who created the new bow graphics for Coachtopia's recycled cotton tees.
Each creative was given the chance to upgrade a popular staple in the Coachtopia design ethos and bring new life to it. Sustainability and upcycling are the future of fashion, especially when thinking about the continued waste around the world because of fashion.
As a generation that has seen climate change actively affect their world, many young people are hoping to have their hand in reimagining a future built on circular fashion movements. Coachtopia and these young creatives are working toward lessening that waste in a way that can still be fun and fashionable.
