If you were to ask CNN’s Ana Navarro what the most important aspect of her wedding to husband Al Cardenas was, she would likely say: “timing.” The journalist, who frequently sits in as a guest co-host on The View and as a political commentator for Telemundo, walked down the aisle on Saturday, March 2, more than 25 years after first meeting her future husband.

“It wasn’t the right time back then, so we became very good friends through the years and through the decades,” Navarro, 47, told People en Español. “Finally, things fell into place, things worked out and we’re able to be here today.”

Navarro and Cardenas, 71, wanted to make sure that all of their best friends and closest loved ones were in attendance, and made it a point to celebrate them in addition to their own nuptials. Navarro particularly noted how special it was to have both her parents in attendance at their Miami wedding, flying in all the way from Nicaragua.

“My mom is in very frail health,” she said. “That’s part of the reason why I did this so quickly, because I wanted her to be there.”

Navarro wore a white gown designed by Luis Escudero for the Rene Ruiz Collection and said she felt “full of love and surrounded by love” on the big day.

“Ana really loved a traditional look with no sparkles,” Escudero tells The Knot. “We looked at half a dozen lace samples that I had already chosen ahead of meeting to see what direction she wanted to go. She really gravitated to the dense French Alençon lace. Once we decided on the lace, I designed the scalloped neckline to mimic the scalloped shape of the Alençon lace itself and she loved that idea.”

Other guests included several famous friends, including CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon; Eva Longoria; senators Mitt Romney and Bob Menendez; co-hosts from The View; and legendary singer Gloria Estefan, whom Navarro counts among her closest confidants.

“I think they made an amazing team. [The wedding] couldn’t have been more beautiful,” the singer told People en Español. “One of those special Miami afternoons that you know, the sun, the weather, could not have been better.”

As for the groom, Cardenas said that he found the entire experience gratifying and exciting—and a long time coming.

“We’ve loved each other for a long time and we’ve worked hard at getting here and it’s just a marvelous, wonderful fulling day for me,” he said. “It’s hard to express but I found my partner, my best friend, and I just can’t wait for this journey to get going.”

Cardenas proposed to Navarro this past July.
