May 8—Friends Too Homemakers

Friends Too Homemakers met April 17 at the Mathews Shelter, Laughlin Park, Rushville. President Diane Paris asked Jackie Rayichen to lead the pledge to the flag and Linda Kuhn to lead the Homemakers Creed. Kay Hineman read the inspiritual thought from Psalm 40:1-5 "Happy Trust." Secretary Dorothy Mahan called the roll by everyone answering whether the eclipse was watched and what happened, and read the secretary's report. Treasurer Sheilah Link gave the treasurer's report. Dues were collected. Diane asked for fair sign-ups for the Root Building. Diane mentioned the Living Well Conference, the Sewing Seminar, Garden Fest, October 7 District Meeting at Center Christian Church, June 3 Homemakers Kick Off with pitch-in at Jackson County Building, etc. A trip may be planned for June or July. John Rayichen made a motion seconded by Linda Kuhn and motion carried to pay $10 to the Bake-a-Rama at the fair. Sheilah showed a needle point piece and Susie Case showed a bunny cross stitch. Kay gave an informative lesson on Q.C.D. (Qualified Charitable Distributions). Susie served delicious refreshments. Recipes were requested for the refreshments. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the same shelter in Rushville. John Rayichen plans to present a lesson on the Samurai Swords and Jackie will bring refreshments. Roll call will be whether you have been to the 500 Race. Anyone is welcome to join us.

Linger Awhile Extension Homemakers

Five members of the Linger Awhile Extension Homemakers met at 10 a.m. April 17 at the Greensburg Adult Center. Following the Homemakers Creed and Pledge to the flag, Irene Tebbe gave Devotions titled "Hope Is" by Clay Harrison. Theresa Ripperger gave the Thought of the Month: "Dress like Coco, live like Jackie, act like Audrey, laugh like Lucy". Roll Call was answered by telling if we had any spring-flowering trees or bushes in our yard, and what is our favorite.

Paulette Duerstock read the minutes from the March meeting, and Irene Tebbe gave the Treasurer's report. Our club designed the August and December pages in the 2024-2025 program books.

For Health & Safety, Theresa read an article titled "Double Down on Vitamin D. With too little vitamin D, "we will not absorb enough calcium and that will lead to weak bones," according to Dr. Bess Dawson-Hughes. By age 70, most people should take between 800 and 1,000 IU of Vitamin D a day. We were given suggestions on dietary changes we can make which include foods rich in vitamin D.

For Cultural Arts, Irene shared her Country Roads Magazine from the year 2011. The Lesson on "Tips for Preventing Dementia" will be discussed at our next meeting. All joined in singing the Homemaker's Prayer. The 50/50 was won by Rosemary Schroeder. Refreshments of cookies and juice were provided by Patsy and Irene. Our next meeting will be at 10 a.m. May 15 at the Adult Center.

50 Extension Homemakers

The 50 Extension Homemakers met at the Extension Office April 17. Isabelle Royse, president, called the meeting to order followed by the Homemaker's Creed and the pledge to the American flag. Judy Kessens, hostess, gave devotions by reading "The 'More' Lifestyle." For cultural arts, she showed us a doll she received for her 16th birthday and her white baby dress.

Becky Hadler read the Thought of the Month, "Dress like Coco, Live like Jackie, Act like Audrey, Laugh like Lucy." In lieu of a song, we had a recipe for Cinnamon Snap cookies which Judy made for our dessert.

Eight members answered roll by stating the spring-flowering trees or bushes in our yards, and what was our favorite. Juanita Israel read the March secretary's report which was approved as read, and Bertha Head gave the treasurer's report.

For unfinished business, we decided to start a new scrapbook. Several things have been collected by various members to start it. Following a question as to when our club started, Juanita read part of the 50 Club history, and the answer was April 30, 1936. Thus, we are 88 years old this month.

For new business, Isabelle announced that June 14 will be our next OCC sewing day beginning at 9 a.m. at the Extension Office. We are to be thinking of somewhere to go for our June outing. Isabelle dispensed Fair Books to those who wanted one.

For Health and Safety, Lucinda informed us about "Weathering the Storm," things to keep us safe and prepared during storms, especially this spring when storms are more prevalent.

Following Club Prayer, Becky gave the lesson "Forgetfulness: Knowing When to Ask for Help." Judy served cookies, lemon dessert, nuts and candy for refreshments. Lucinda and Isabelle received the door prizes.

Our next meeting will be May 15 at the Extension Office. Ann Stagge will be hostess, Juanita will present the educational lesson, and Judy will have the health and safety lesson.
