Closing Dates Announced For Vermont Ski Resorts

Vermont has had a successful season. Copious amounts of snow, being in the path of totality for the recent solar eclipse, and although they had one of their warmest seasons ever, their snowfall didn't seem to suffer too badly.

Local news channel WCAX reported that while skiers had varying reactions to the winter behind them, things are ending on a powdery note. Watch below.

Because you want to know where to ski now, and where to ski last, we have compiled the closing dates for Vermont resorts Stowe, Smuggs, Jay, Stratton, Mt. Snow, Okemo, Killington, and Sugarbush.

Starting off with Stowe, Vermont's highest peak, which closes April 16th, their FourRunner Quad and their new Sunrise 6-person lift are both scheduled to spin starting at 8:00 AM providing uphill access until 4:00 PM.

Smuggler's Notch may not have the most secure covering (shown in their latest IG post below) but they do have vibes on deck and fun corn snow for spring skiing. Their closing date is April 14th, but there is a pause from April 8th to 11th on spinning lifts.

Also, it's worth noting that Smuggs' beginner terrain is expected to close Sunday, April 7, 2024. Things are looking fun until then; see below.

Jay Peak is projected to close on April 28th, and they have been seeing a ton of snow this season. In other words, the Jay Cloud has been delivering.

Their base depth is currently 25-55 inches.

Unfortunately, Jay Peak is due for some rain. The snow will be soft and wet with temperatures reaching into the low 50's, but 100% of their terrain is open despite the poor weather.

Southern Vermont's Stratton Mountain, home of many child prodigies who ski and ride their slopes from the academy, is scheduled to close on April 14th, just like Smuggs'.

Mt. Snow is closing April 21st, and at this time, 31 out of 86 of their trails are open, with 2 out of 19 lifts open and a base depth of 22 inches.

Okemo Resort, near Boston, has their website list their 2023 closing date, which was April 16th.

Killington opened on November 3rd this season, and last year, remained open until June 1st. The resort typically closes sometime in May, and with enough snow, in June. They explain why there is no closing date, writing, "like our plan for opening, we don't set a closing day and will ski and ride on Superstar for as long as the snow lasts."

It might last a while. The below video was taken just a few days ago.

Last, but certainly not least, Sugarbush has a 40 inch base and has seen 246 inches of snow this season.

With 35% of their terrain open, Sugarbush has closed Mt. Ellen for the season, but Lincoln Peak remains open from 10am-5pm.

There was a closing party for Mt. Ellen on March 31st, to celebrate the 60th year of Mt. Ellen.

Last year, the resort was open until May 7th. See below.

There's still time left in the season for Vermont. But it's never a bad idea to get after it while you can--and before the rain gets on it.
