The Velocio RECON collection consists of a long-sleeve jersey, a vest, and a waterproof hardshell jacket. Also in the collection (but not reviewed here): the Helen Wyman Signature Overpants.

According to the company, the collection “is designed to be versatile, comfortable, and durable across a variety of rides and conditions yet aesthetically clean enough to keep wearing when the pedaling stops. RECON marries the highest quality technical materials with modern design cues and a tailored cycling cut.”

Here’s our take:

Wool Long-Sleeve Jersey
Made from a blend of cozy merino wool and polyamide, this jersey offers warmth and moisture wicking with extra stretch and durability. It’s one of the best fitting and most comfortable long-sleeved jerseys I’ve tried. A few other details setit apart: Two front zippered pockets add storage capacity, and three rear pockets are protected by a flap that keeps your phone/wallet/mini pump from taking a flyer. Pops of contrasting, printed fabric line the cuffs and collar for a little extra style flair. Available in Petrol and Black; XXS-XL; $219

Quilted Vest
More substantial that your average cycling vest, this one is made entirely from merino wool with windproof front and side panels. It has a total of three zippered pockets, two up front and one in the rear; reflective logos and trim detail; and a loop on the back for a light. A slightly longer rear hem offers good coverage, and the sturdy, metal two-way zipper is easy to grab while you’re riding. This is not a fold-up-and-stow-in-your-jersey-pocket piece. But if you don’t like the bulk of a jacket, it’s a perfect top layer for any kind of ride in chilly weather, and looks great in a casual office. Black; XXS-XL; $269

Hardshell Jacket
This is the most eye-catching cycling-specific rain jacket I’ve ever seen. The metal, offset zipper and a snap-closure collar with a contrasting, patterned lining give it feminine-moto styling that sets it apart from others in the category. It also has serious technical chops. Velocio says the jacket is 100-percent wind- and waterproof thanks to Polartec Neoshell fabric and fully taped seams. Vents in the shoulders increase breathability, and soft fitted cuffs keep wet out and warmth in. Two zippered front pockets are enough for essentials; reflective accents and a light loop on the back ensure that you’re seen. A note on fit: It’s true to size, but feels a little tight under the arms—until you get into a riding position, and then it’s just right. Available in Charcoal and Red Pepper (shown); XS-XL; $439
