Clip: Mason Ho Surfs Palm Springs Wavepool to Perfection

Of all the emerging wavepools on the artificial surfing scene, few look as fun as the Palm Springs Surf Club. And of all surfers in said wavepools, few appear to be having as much fun as Hawaiian aerialist and grommet inside a grown man’s body, Mason Ho.

Put the two together and…chef’s kiss.

The clip above is nothing new. It comes from filmmaker Logan Dulien’s Instagram page for Snapt (his ongoing, high-octane surf film series), via Robbie Crawford, and it was captured at the Palm Springs Surf Club test facility.

And it shows Mason Ho with a combo practically unseen in the ocean:

A chop hop right after takeoff, immediately followed by a tube.

The best part? His hair isn’t even wet yet.

For some time, the Palm Springs Surf Club has been a private prototype, meaning only those invited get to test the goods. But plans for a public pool with this same technology are allegedly in the works. Per their website:

“The Palm Springs Surf Club is a rebirth for the old Wet n’ Wild park in Palm Springs. The renovations, lead by the new owners Pono Partners LLC, will focus on a state-of-the-art wave pool capable of producing waves for everyone from beginners to professional surfers.

“The wave pool at Palm Springs Surf Club is an operational prototype using Surf Loch technology to pump out a variety of wave shapes and sizes. Pono partners is using it to raise additional funding for expansion of the pool and additional renovation of the facility."

As for the clip, commenters loved it:

“Sick combo”

“Nobody else is gonna do it like that. Cleannnnn”

“Didn’t even get his hair wet!”

@cocom4debarrelkilla is the most entertaining surfer in the world right now- the aloha is strong in him!”

“Only Mase

Like we’ve hinted at before with Italo Ferreira, this type of surfing is more akin to a videogame than anything previously seen in real life.

Begs the question: With the rise of wavepools, will this become the norm?

Stay tuned.
