The Cleveland Browns officially have a new dog logo. Per the NFL team’s official website, the “dawg” logo was chosen by fan vote from a design created by Houston Mark, who wanted to display “the intensity and passion of the fanbase while including several symbols that highlight the history of both the franchise and Cleveland.”

A Bullmastiff was chosen by fans to represent the fanbase. “The thing I really wanted to focus on was the fans and the relationship they have with the team,” Mark said. “How can I make the Cleveland Browns fanbase the forefront of the design while also maintaining this aggressive, no-nonsense attitude?”

What does the new Cleveland Brown logo mean?

Included in the new dog logo includes eight different symbols that best incorporate the franchise’s history as well as the rabid fandom. The symbols are as follows:

Ohio, Football, East Endzone (home of the Dawg Pound), Guitar Pick (a reference to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), Spikes (eight spikes representing the team’s eight championships), Guardian Bridge, Pound Helmet (a 1980’s Dawg Pound reference), and Helmet Stripe (a nod to the team’s classic helmet).

Cleveland Brown’s Executive Vice President and Partner JW Johnson said, “We are so excited to unveil a new dawg logo that perfectly encapsulates who we are as a franchise and as a city,” He added, “Our fans have been asking us for a new dawg logo for quite some time, so it made perfect sense for them to select the logo themselves and decide how they want our team to be represented — and they made a great choice.”
