The unsung hero of the kitchen is your wood cutting board. It has stayed with you through almost every meal and never lets you down.

So, why would you ever let it build with bacteria, odor, and stains? Ick!

After chopping up some fresh herbs, we noticed that our favorite cutting board needed a little bit of TLC. We turned to Dani Spies and her blog Clean and Delicious for help. Dani is a health coach who offers yummy recipes and informative articles about nutrition and wellness. In her helpful cleaning how-to, she demonstrates how to scrub away cooking grime while using a natural disinfectant. We can't wait to get home and try it out! Here's how it's done:

First, sprinkle baking soda onto the surface of your board. Be sure to reach all the way to the edges.

Next, cut a lemon in half and squeeze fresh juice over the board. The juice hitting the baking soda will cause a fun, bubbly reaction.

Use the lemon half to scrub down the board. Lemon is a natural disinfectant, so it is a safe cleaning agent for your family to be around.

Finally, wipe the board with a hot, wet cloth.
