This Thanksgiving, in classy moves we hope to some day be able to emulate, a Florida woman left an $835 tip on a $29.95 turkey dinner, giving instructions on a cocktail napkin that the entire staff should benefit from the tip. That’s how impressed she was by the level of service she received at the Chart House in Melbourne, Florida.

The big tipper told Florida Today she “didn’t do it to get praise. I did it because I am grateful for what I have. I’m very blessed and grateful that they spent their time away from their own families to serve us customers.”

Dang. It’s a nice reminder that restaurant and bar staff members often work shifts we 9-to-5 types wouldn’t dream of working: Thanksgiving Day, New Year’s Eve, Christmas Day. Perhaps over this holiday season, those of us who can tip 22 or 25 percent rather than our typical 20 percent will do so—in the same way we tip the supers of our apartment buildings or the mailmen.

Or, you know, you can be like this guy, and tip $2,500 on a $531 dinner. If you’re into that sort of thing.
