These Classic Movies Are Coming Back to Theaters

01/25/2019 — Turner Classic Movies is bringing our favorite classic films back to the big screen in 2019. Throughout the year, TCM’s Big Screen Classics series will air 14 classic movies, including The Wizard of Oz, My Fair Lady, Hello, Dolly!, and When Harry Met Sally. The list even includes some of our favorite date night movies!

Each movie has two or three air dates scheduled in 2019 and showings include a combination of weeknight and weekend dates. We can’t wait to watch our favorite films while munching on real movie theater popcorn! Fathom Events programming can be seen in AMC, Cinemark, and Regal theaters—see the full schedule below and check availability near you on Fathom Events’ website.

The Wizard of Oz

Learn why there’s truly no place like home as you sing along with Judy Garland’s rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and watch the gang dance down the yellow brick road. Originally released in 1939, The Wizard of Oz will be in theaters to commemorate the film’s 80th anniversary. Scheduled theater dates include January 27, 29, and 30.

My Fair Lady

This classic film has been recently restored for its 50th anniversary, so you can see the eight-time Oscar-winning musical in theaters in better quality than ever before. The movie will be in theaters February 17 and 20.

To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of our all-time favorite classic movies. Originally released in 1962, the film follows the Finch family as they learn about racial injustice in their small Alabama town. You can catch it in theaters March 24 and 27.

Ben-Hur

Originally released in 1959, Ben-Hur will be in theaters to celebrate its 60th anniversary this year. Catch the action drama film that won a record-breaking 11 Oscars in theaters on April 14 and 17.

True Grit

True Grit celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Watch John Wayne, Kim Darby, and Glen Campbell execute a search for justice in this award-winning classic. The movie will be in theaters May 5 and 8.

Steel Magnolias

It’s been three decades since six of our favorite big names appeared on screen together, so TCM is bringing back Steel Magnolias in honor of the film’s 30th anniversary. Watch Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, and the rest of the crew in theaters May 19, 21, and 22.

Field of Dreams

It’s been 30 years since Kevin Costner said, “If you build it, they will come,” and we’re betting if they show the movie, they will come too. We can’t wait to see this sports classic in theaters again! The movie’s scheduled theater dates are June 16 and 18.

Glory

Watch Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, and Morgan Freeman together in theaters again with the 30th anniversary edition of Glory. The movie explores race relations within a volunteer infantry during the Civil War and won several awards, including three Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and two NAACP Image Awards. The movie will be in theaters July 21 and 24.

Hello, Dolly!

In Hello, Dolly! Barbra Streisand plays a matchmaker in New York City in the 1890s with a secret romantic agenda. Watch the classic musical again in theaters on August 11 and 14.

Lawrence of Arabia

This 1962 classic historical drama tells the real-life story of T.E. Lawrence, played by Peter O’Toole and won seven Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, and four British Academy Film Awards. You can watch Lawrence navigate tensions of the First World War in theaters on September 1 and 4.

The Shawshank Redemption

The movie adaptation of Stephen King’s original short story follows the life of Andy Dufresne who has been falsely accused of murder and while imprisoned, befriends a man named Red, played by Morgan Freeman. The movie is scheduled to appear in theaters on September 22, 24, and 25.

Alien

Sci-fi lovers can catch the 40th anniversary showing of Alien in theaters this fall. Watch as Sigourney Weaver’s character explores the unknowns of space and makes an extraterrestrial discovery. The movie will be in theaters on October 13, 15, and 16.

The Godfather Part II

Rewatch the first Godfather movie before heading to theaters to catch the second installment of the classic trilogy. The movie’s scheduled theater dates are November 20, 12, and 13.
