Clare Crawley Keeps Liking Shady Bachelorette Tweets—As She Should

Clare Crawley may be subtly hinting that all is not what it seems on The Bachelorette—and you know what? Good for her.

Following one of the most high-pressure, emotionally charged episodes in Bachelorette history (and it was, like, only week three, right?), Us Weekly pointed out that Crawley has been liking a series of tweets that point to a somewhat heavy-handed “Dale-obsessed” storyline. (Dale Moss is the contestant whom Crawley allegedly falls in love with quickly and leaves the show for.)

“I just also think there’s a possibility that she is giving the other guys a chance (or at least trying) and we’re not seeing it because that wouldn’t fit the Dale-obsessed storyline,” reads one tweet that Crawley liked on Twitter. “Although their reactions make it clear that if she’s trying, they’re not feeling it.”

Another tweet pointed out that Crawley really had no choice but to lead the other guys on, even if she felt like Moss was “the one” the second he popped out of the limo. “People saying that @Clare_Crawley is wasting everyone’s time without realizing that she’s contractually obligated to do so,” the tweet began. “I would also wager that there are many seasons where the lead talks about their frontrunner just as much, we just don’t see it #BacheloretteABC.”

I mean, duh—that's what this show does. I’m not saying Crawley’s interest in Moss over the others didn’t shine through—they clearly have footage showing that it does—but think about it: We’ve known through the spoiler stratosphere that the Bachelorette ducks out early to be with one of the guys for months. What are The Bachelorette editors supposed to do? Applaud her for finding romance so quickly? They can’t! That would give the next Bachelor or Bachelorette license to do the same. No one would stick this thing out to the end again.

Even worse, they’d have to admit that all the guys except for like, three, were complete and total duds (which, of course, is nothing new). Also, who really thinks all the guys got together and decided to dunk on Moss during the roast without a little push from the producers? Come on.

(Side rant: Whose time did she even waste, exactly? These guys are at an all-expenses-paid resort during a pandemic?! Make it make sense.)

Just look at how one ABC executive talked about Clare Crawley on Nick Viall’s podcast The Viall Files. “When she didn’t give out that rose and just gave it to herself. At the time, it was sort of controversial,” Robert Mills said. “That was it. That was it, that was when we started making the call [to find a new Bachelorette].” I think if Hannah Brown had given herself a rose back when all her dudes were acting like jerks, it would have been framed as an empowering, “girl boss” moment (which, by the way, it absolutely was).

There’s nothing wrong with Clare Crawley. She’s just a victim of the edit the show has chosen for her. Let’s hope Tayshia Adams is treated better.
