Who is Clara Pierce? Fans think Miley Cyrus uploaded music under a fake name

For days, Miley Cyrus fans have been floating an interesting theory online, but the jury is still out on whether or not any of it is true.

According to Just Jared, fans have been speculating that Cyrus secretly released music on Spotify and Apple Music under a completely different name: Clara Pierce.

The reasoning? Pierce’s deep, raspy voice sounds eerily similar to Cyrus’s trademark vocals. Plus, Pierce’s debut album, Down With Me, dropped on March 10 — the very same day that Cyrus released her latest album, Endless Summer Vacation. In addition, there doesn’t seem to be any trace of a singer named “Clara Pierce” online nor any marketing campaigns that were launched around the new album.

Together, these coincidences have led fans to believe that Pierce is really Cyrus’s alter ego, much like Sasha Fierce was to Beyoncé. And recently, chatter about the album has begun sweeping Twitter and TikTok.

Many fans have wondered if Down With Me was some kind of secret companion album to Endless Summer Vacation or just another elaborate, AI-generated fake.

At the same time, others began to argue that Pierce’s album was actually better than Cyrus’s new music, which led to a heated debate.

Some also joked that Cyrus was putting a Hannah Montana on her fans.

But once talk about the “secret” album started to go viral this week, Down with Me was suddenly pulled from Spotify — without any explanation. As of April 25, it can no longer be found on the streaming site.

According to reports, it does seem to be the consensus that the 12 tracks previously listed under Clara Pierce do, in fact, feature Cyrus’s vocals. That said, neither Cyrus nor her reps have made an official statement about the controversy.

And if this is, in fact, Cyrus’s music, it’s unclear who would have uploaded the track — if it was the singer herself, with permission, or if someone with access to her scrapped demos released them without authorization.

As Seventeen reports, there was a collection of “lost songs” that were meant for the album She Is Miley Cyrus, which was set to be released in 2020 but later scrapped.

Cyrus later opened up about what happened in an Instagram post, in which she referenced the house fire that destroyed her home in Malibu in 2018, taking considerable amounts of recording material with it.

“Just when I thought the body of work was finished… it was ALL erased,” the singer shared with her fans. “Including most of the music’s relevance. Because EVERYTHING had changed. Nature did what I now see as a favor and destroyed what I couldn’t let go of for myself. I lost my house in a fire but found myself in its ashes.”

Whatever the real story is, fans are seriously missing the Clara Pierce album and are hoping it returns to Spotify or Apple Music soon. Until then, they’re taking what they can get on YouTube, where copied segments of the songs still exist.
