From Harper's BAZAAR

Come hither, parched ones, because the Droughtlander is over and the time has come to quench! your! thirst! As you know if you watched Outlander's Season 3 finale, Claire and Jamie washed up on the coast of Georgia and spent a solid three minutes staring seductively into each other's eyes while some poor American family was like, "Hark, never have we seen two such horny and water-logged randoms."

That feel when you're half drowned but you're also half down.

But there are so many questions that need to be answered-questions like, did Young Ian make it out of the shipwreck alive? What are Claire and Jamie going to get up to now that they're in colonial America? And, most importantly, how many dramatic slow-motion shots of bald eagles will we get in this episode alone? You're about to find out.

Catching Up with Claire and Jamie

Okay, so update: Claire and Jamie have been in America for about four months, all of their friends and family conveniently survived the shipwreck, and their big plan is to sell a ruby necklace so they can buy passage back to ye olde Scotland. But as you might expect, things don't exactly go according to said big plan.

First thing's first, their friend Gavin Hayes is hanged for killing a man-and one of his fellow inmates, a super sassy pirate named Stephen Bonnet, manages to escape in the aftermath of Hayes' public hanging. (Please note his entire escape scene is set to the tune of some jaunty fiddle music, because WE'RE IN AMERICA NOW.)

Anyway, because they're nice people, Claire and Jamie ignore the fact that Bonnet is clearly all-caps EVIL and agree to help him escape. Claire even goes to the trouble of mending Bonnet's wound after he's stabbed in the leg and politely listens to him hit on her with pickup lines like "there's something about the notion of an infinite circle that fascinates me." Thank you, but next!

We'll get back to Bonnet in a minute, because not-so-shockingly he becomes this episode's main antagonist. But before that, let's go ahead and address the burning question on everyone's mind right now: Yes, Claire and Jamie do have passionate sex in this episode (right after helping Bonnet escape). It takes place outdoors, there's a roaring fire into which Jamie stares forlornly, and at one point Claire literally says "I WANT TO FEEL ALIVE WITH YOU" before climbing on top of him.

Catching Up with Young Ian, Fergus, and Marsali

Good news: Marsali is pregnant and she and Fergus seem super excited! Because of their happy life update, the pair plan to stay in America and settle down... and that's basically all for now. Much more importantly, Young Ian has adopted a dog, which is henceforth the most important character on this show. Like, look at his face:

Such happy! So good boy!

YES, HE IS, YOUNG IAN!

And speaking of Young Ian, this poor guy is going through some serious PTSD from his experience with Geillis last season. As you probably recall, she forced him into having sex with her. Ian opens up to Jamie about struggling with the physical pleasure linked to his assault, and while their conversation is brief, it's it's good to see Outlander give screen time to Ian working through his trauma.

Stephen Bonnet Is the Worst: Fact

Update: Claire and Jamie have decided to stay in America. This major decision comes after the couple heads to a fancy dinner (where everyone is very racist and sexist, FYI) and manage to sell one of their rubies to a gemstone-loving guest. Sure, they now have enough money for passage to Scotland, but the thing is, a the governor of North Carolina offers Jamie a land grant in the hopes of getting him to settle down in the USA...and it's tempting.

There are clearly a lot of red flags to consider-like the fact that this gentleman obviously just wants a former soldier on his side as the revolutionary resistance forms, and the fact that the Revolutionary War itself is going down in just a few years-but Jamie wants to stay so he can help make America a better place for Brianna. You know, Brianna? Girl who won't be born for hundreds of years? But sure, okay Jamie, whatever irrational and terrible decisions make you happy, buddy!

(Side note: Jamie-who currently has the same bangs I had in 5th grade- delivers a very profound musing during this conversation, telling Claire, "bees that have money in their mouth have a sting in their tail." Words to live by.)

Jamie and Claire break the news to their friends, and the whole crew (meaning Lesley and Young Ian) head to River Run, where Jamie's aunt (more about her here) has an estate. Everyone's favorite lovebirds have a super cute moment where Jamie gives Claire a medical kit and gets romantic, but then things things take a turn for the inevitable. As you probably guessed, Stephen Bonnet storms their camp and not only do he and his pirate friends steal Jamie's jewels, he takes the wedding ring Jamie gave Claire, and he straight-up kills Lesley. He's truly RUTHLESS. But at least he kept Claire and Jamie alive-and most importantly Young Ian's dog appears to still be with us!

If this dog dies, SO HELP ME.
