City of Norman, Lake Thunderbird State Park kick off summer programming

May 25—Summer may not technically start until June 20, but local parks and recreation centers are already making ways for families to spend some time in the sun.

Monday, Lake Thunderbird State Park will host a Memorial Day celebration. There will be kid-friendly arts and crafts, water games and other activities, along with a movie screening at 1 p.m.

The City of Norman has already opened some of its summer facilities.

Westwood Family Aquatic Center opened yesterday. Every day this summer, the center will open its doors from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Swimmers can buy day passes, but individual and family season passes are also available. Season pass holders get early admission beginning at noon each day and receive discounts on swim lessons, party rentals, and classes for children.

Passes also include free access to special events, fitness classes and morning lap swim sessions. Discounts are available for active duty military members and seniors over 55 years old.

The splash pads at Andrews Park and Colonial Estates Park opened Thursday and will run every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The splash pads are free and open to the pubic, but they also have reservable shelters for parties and other gatherings.
