Cinco De Mayo weekend: Here are some places to enjoy authentic Mexican food in Anderson

Cinco de Mayo is May 5, and the holiday celebrates Mexican culture and heritage and the victory of Indigenous Mexicans, such as Juárez, over European invaders during the Battle of Puebla.

The holiday is celebrated with parties, mariachi music, dancing, and traditional foods such as tacos, enchiladas, guacamole, chiles rellenos, tamales, churros, margaritas, and much more.

Indulging in these authentic traditional dishes is one way to honor Mexican culture and celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

There are several Mexican restaurants in Anderson that sell authentic Mexican food year-round.

Here are some options to choose from

Cinco de Mayo: Mexican Restaurant Locations

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo weekend at El Patrón's, located at 186 Station Drive. Here, you can indulge in delicious, authentic Mexican food, enjoy Cinco de Mayo house liquor specials for just $4 each, and watch the big game on their flat-screen televisions.

The restaurant, owned by chefs Rafael and Jesus, has been open since 1988 and specializes in authentic Mexican cuisine.

Hours of operation: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Plus, for the spring and summer seasons, El Patrón's is offering daily specials from Monday to Friday for just $10 and on weekends for $12.

There is also an El Patron at 107 N. Weston St. in Fountain Inn.

This restaurant offers a fresh take on Mexican cuisine. Its menu features tacos, classic dishes, margaritas, liquors, and beers.

According to elpatronmexicano.com, both locations offer both pickup and delivery options.

El Taco

El Taco is a Mexican restaurant owned by Sergio and his family. It is located at 192 Civic Center BLVD building 1449.

Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The restaurant offers authentic Mexican food made from scratch using traditional family recipes, such as chile relleno, pollo con mole, carne asada, carnitas, flautas, and slopes.

Cinco de Mayo weekend specials are $3 margaritas, $3 dollar beer and $2 tequila shots.

There is also another location at 715B E. Greenville St.

Taco Loco Bar and Grill

Taco Loco, a Mexican bar and grill owned by Jamie and Juan Perez, is hosting a Drinko de Mayo celebration on Sunday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The bar is located at 122 W. Whitner St.

The restaurant specializes in authentic Mexican food and refreshing margaritas, beer, and liquor.

Taco Loco offers more than a dozen flavors, including chicken, steak, pastor, barbacoa, and lengua. These are complemented by their house-made sauces and a squeeze of lime.

Specials include draft beer for $2.99, medium house margarita for $4.99, medium watermelon margarita for $5.99, house tequila shots for $2.99, 400 Canejos shots for $4, New Amsterdam shots for $4, Camarena shots for $4, Lalo shots for $4, Patron shots for $5, Luna Azul shots for $5, and Taco Loco margarita for $8.

Normal operating hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

El Manzanillo Mexican Restaurant

El Manzanillo Mexican Restaurant, located at 4355 Hwy 24, is hosting a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta.

The restaurant specializes in American and Mexican foods such as chicken wings, fries, onion rings, hamburgers, seafood, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, margaritas, beer, liquor, and much more.

DJ Jose will be on-site spinning the tunes. There will be $3 Tequila shots, $5 for a 16-ounce beer, and $10 for a 32-ounce beer.

There will also be a T-shirt giveaway throughout the night while supplies last.

Taqueria El Guiri-Guiri

Taqueria El Guiri-Guiri, located at 114 W Fredericks St, is an extension of Taco Loco.

Operating hours are Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays, 10 p.m.

The Prez Family makes a variety of Mexican street tacos from authentic family recipes passed down from generation to generation. Including shredded chicken, steak, pastor, chorizo, and beef tongue.
