Cinco de Mayo festival set for Sunday in Marysville

May 3—The annual Cinco de Mayo Festival is scheduled for this Sunday in Marysville, featuring a parade, bull riding and a number of musical acts.

The free event will be held at the Cotton Rosser Arena Pavilion located in Riverfront Park in Marysville, and is organized by local radio station Radio Mexico La Gran X in partnership with the Alliance for Hispanic Advancement and United Organizations.

Radio host Juan Villagrana said that the event will kick off with a parade on the park grounds before showcasing a Mexican rodeo. Los Toros Inmortales from Rancho WC and The Bulls from Rancho La Estrella will also perform a bull riding show.

A number of live music performances will feature traditional and contemporary Mexican music with groups such as Mariachi Oro de México, Banda Los Amanecidos, and El Amigable de Tijuana among others.

Food vendors will also serve authentic Mexican cuisine, including tacos, pupusas, street corn and more, organizers said. Notable vendors include Quenchies & Munchies, Daisy's Churros and Valencia Tacos.

According to organizers, the Cinco de Mayo Festival serves to highlight the history and significance of Hispanic culture in the area.

"It's a great opportunity to experience the vibrant spirit of Cinco de Mayo without breaking the bank," officials said.

For Villagrana, the event is about community and connection.

"We always invite the community, all the organizations to get together. That's the main thing. We started doing Cinco de Mayo 30 years ago. That's a date when I see a lot of people that I haven't seen all year. They come to this festival because it's free and they can bring the whole family; the grandfathers, fathers, mothers, and kids. Everybody comes to have fun," Villagrana said.

The Cinco de Mayo Festival will run from noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday at the Cotton Rosser Arena, located at 600 Biz Johnson Dr. in Marysville. This event is free and open to the public.
