Cinco de Mayo in Baton Rouge: Where to find celebrations, drink specials
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Cinco de Mayo is quickly approaching. This year, Cinco de Mayo falls on a Sunday.
Cinco de Mayo, or May 5, is the celebration of Mexico’s victory over the French in 1862, according to National Geographic.
Many confuse Cinco de Mayo with Mexico’s Independence Day, which falls in September, according to Brittanica.
In the United States, Cinco de Mayo was started by Mexican immigrants who were celebrating their heritage. Americans tend to celebrate the Mexican holiday with margaritas and visit their favorite Mexican restaurants in town.
Across Baton Rouge, restaurants, bars, lounges and clubs will offer specials for guests to celebrate the holiday.
