Cimarron High School students build sculpture out of old horseshoes

CIMARRON, N.M. (KRQE) – Students at Cimarron High School put their welding skills to work on a cool project by creating a life-sized elk sculpture out of old horseshoes. To make it, the students first drew out a silhouette of an elk on the shop’s floor, then bent, cut, and welded more than 330 horseshoes together. They also used will pipe to create realistic-looking antlers.

The final product stands 8.5 feet tall and is about nine feet long. The sculpture will now be auctioned off with the proceeds going back to the class to fund another project.
