Chuck Norris has built a career on his image as a rugged American lawman—he’s Cordell Walker, the denim-clad, cowboy-hat wearing Texas Ranger, after all. He may be grizzled and take no nonsense, but he’s fundamentally aligned with the forces of law and order.

So it was a surprise for some social media users to see a picture of what looked to be the 80-year-old Norris attending the insurrection in Washington, D.C., last week. The image showed a tanned, brown-haired man Walker-esque facial hair among the crowd, leading to speculation that Norris had been in the capital.

Not so, said the star, who supported Trump in 2016. He responded on Tuesday, tweeting, “I recently learned there was a Chuck Norris lookalike at the DC Capitol riots. It wasn’t me and I wasn’t there. There is no room for violence of any kind in our society. I am and always will be for Law and Order.” He signed off, “Your friend, Chuck Norris.” (His agent had already reported to the Associated Press that Norris remains on his property in Texas, but perhaps Norris felt he had to address the rumors.)

By that point, close observers had pointed out that the picture didn’t really look that much look Norris, anyway; the man photographed had darker eyes, for example. Still, when it comes to Chuck Norris facts, it’s always good to get them from the man himself.
