What They Are

In a chrome ombré nail design, a smooth gradient effect is created on the base of the nail by blending two or more colors. Then, the nails are topped with chrome powder (both the glazed donut and metallic variety work here). The result is a manicure with a bold and modern appearance.

How to Wear Them

Start by selecting your ombré colors—at least one darker and one lighter. You'll want to consider which shades harmonize with each other and resonate with your specific style or mood. From subtle transitions like nude to white to bold choices like a vibrant rainbow, chrome ombré nails are super versatile. "Classic shades like white to pink, similar to a French manicure, can bring out a more elevated and classy look," notes Mazz Hanna, CEO of Nailing Hollywood. Another way to wear this manicure is by "blending two contrasting colors or creating an ombré effect within the same color family to add depth and dimension to your nails," says Nailing Hollywood artist LaTara Haye. "Add an extra touch with embellishments or glitter."

While you can rock this look on any nail shape or length, "consider opting for a medium-long almond or ballerina shape," suggests Hanna.

How to Get the Look

To create a chrome ombré manicure, you'll want to start with a protective base coat. Then, apply your lighter polish shade all over the nail. After it fully dries, use a makeup sponge or brush to seamlessly blend your darker shade(s) from the tips toward the middle of each nail. Ensure a flawless gradient by gently dabbing and blending your colors. (Ombré nails are surprisingly easy to DIY.) Once your ombré base is completely dry, use a brush to top it with either a chrome powder or eyeshadow. Then, seal your completed look with a glossy top coat for wear and shine, and voilà—you've got a chrombré mani.
