The year was 1988. The face of Eternity for Calvin Klein? Supermodel Christy Turlington. Amid all the chaos over the last few years, it’s nice to know that some things never change—and get better with time. Christy Turlington Burns is back as the face of the Eternity fragrance, this time along with her husband, actor Ed Burns. The campaign captures the essence of Calvin Klein’s new Eternity Eau de Parfum Intense for Her and Eternity Parfum for Men.

“What I’ve liked about each phase, as the fragrance has evolved, is that it’s gotten more complex and a little more exciting,” Turlington Burns says speaking to BAZAAR.com. “It’s always been sensual. It’s always been romantic. It’s always been an amazing classic, but these latest scents really feel to me a little bit more supercharged.”

While this is the third Eternity campaign under her belt (they did a second one eight years ago), for the model, getting to collaborate with fresh faces was a highlight.

“Honesty, after working for the fragrance for so long, it’s nice to see how creative minds interpret something as iconic as this campaign in a new way,” she says. “The director certainly did. He was trying to find a very classic but playful version of the story.”

If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to shoot an intimate fragrance ad with your partner (even if you’re a model and he’s an actor), Turlington Burns admits that it does have the potential to get a little awkward. So having the right person behind the camera is key.

“The photographer was so easy to work with,” she says. “It can be awkward to work with your husband. We’ve only done it twice, but I would say this last time we felt more comfortable having done it once before. It was really lovely.”

While they’ve been in only two campaigns together, the couple has been married for almost 20 years. Her advice for keeping the spark alive? “Shoot a fragrance commercial together,” she jokes. That, and lots of laughter.

“What I like most about my relationship is that we still laugh a lot. I think humor is sort of the most important thing in life, because life is hard,” she says. “So when you can pick a person that gets you and you can laugh without even talking sometimes—just by knowing— that’s really special. Try to find that person that keeps you laughing.”

Eternity Eau de Parfum Intense for Her features notes of Turkish rose, pepper Sichuan, and jasmine sambac absolute, while Eternity Parfum for Men carries notes of organic lavender, rum extract, and white vanilla absolute. The fragrance duos seamlessly complement one another.

“Fragrance is an intimate thing. It’s a time for yourself, and it’s how you lift up your spirits and your energy,” Turlington Burns says. “But it’s also what you want to share with the person you’re with or the people you’re with. You do it for yourself, but it’s also a thing you do for other people. You want to smell nice. You want to be inviting.”
