Christopher Meloni and His Wife Sherman Meloni Have the Coolest Meet-Cute Story

On Law & Order: SVU, Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay made up one of television's all-time greatest pairs. But in real life, there's no question about who Chris's perfect partner really is—his wife of 25 years, Sherman Meloni!
From the moment Sherman road into Chris's life on a motorcycle (seriously, how cool is she?!), he was smitten. And it looks like his love for her hasn't wavered after all these years together.
So in honor of Chris and Sherman's epic romance, let's take a look back at where it all started, when he was still an up-and-coming actor in 1989.
How did Christopher Meloni meet his wife?
Chris and Sherman first met on the set of the HBO series where he made his acting debut. The future SVU star couldn't help but notice Sherman, a production designer with short, platinum blonde hair and cat's-eye sunglasses who pulled up to work one day on a Harley motorcycle.
"This I gotta meet," Chris, who was also a motorcycle rider, recalls thinking at the time, according to an interview with YourTango.
Although the chemistry was there, the timing was off. Sherman had a boyfriend. After a few years of bumping into each other here and there in L.A., Chris and Sherman finally started dating. And what a first date it was! Sherman took Chris to three parties, each thrown by very different sets of her friends. "Chris passed with flying colors," she said. "And I thought: I can take him anywhere." Next stop? The alter!
When did they get married?
After around four years of dating, the couple tied the knot on July 1, 1995 on the beach in Malibu. But it wasn't your average beach wedding—it had a medieval theme! A nondenominational minister performed the service, and then the bride and groom held up their goblets and drank to the occasion! The honeymoon would have to wait, however. The bride was working on a movie in Miami, so she headed straight for the airport after the ceremony. These two really are unconventional—in the best possible way!
Does Christopher Meloni have kids?
Yes! Chris and Sherman have two children, daughter Sophia Meloni (20) and son Dante Meloni (17). Chris's Law & Order: SVU co-star Mariska is actually Sophia's godmother. So sweet!
"I love my children beyond all reason. They're my joy, even when they're wild with kid energy," Chris told YourTango as a young dad.
Years later, it was clear that Chris was still super hands-on.
"I think my kids would call me a little crazy," he told USA Today in 2014. "I'm very physical, very affectionate. I'm also very disciplined and focused on education...What works for me is empowering my kids."
We love that Chris is such a family man! He's clearly built a wonderful life with a wonderful wife. Cheers to Chris and Sherman!
