Christophe Moreau Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

Christophe Moreau’s name and professional cycling career is inescapably linked to the Festina affair, one of the most disillusioning pro-cycling doping scandals that occured in the last forty years. Over the weekend he added another reason to the list of why he’s now referred to as “disgraced.”

The former pro-cyclist, once considered France’s hope to win the Tour de France, was arrested in Switzerland on Sunday, January 15 and charged with threatening to kill his wife and two children, Eurosport reports.

Police seized several shotguns from Moreau’s home on Sunday evening while they were taking him into custody. According to the Swiss media reports, Moreau was drunk at the time of the arrest. Police were posted at the home of Moreau’s wife and the couple’s two teenage daughters to ensure their safety.

After Moreau left professional cycling in 2010, he became a Swiss national and is currently residing in Porrentruy. The Swiss media states that the couple have been living separately since last fall, and that the threats violence were prompted by Moreau’s jealousy during the ongoing divorce proceedings.
