If you live in a metro area, getting a Christmas tree isn't always as easy task. For starters, you might not have enough space to fit a whole evergreen in your apartment (in which case, may we suggest these tiny tree ideas?). Also, depending on the area, the demand may be really high, prompting a price surge. While numerous factors can hike up the price for a holiday pine, the cost should never equate to that of a small home repair.

Too late. It turns out Christmas in New York City is only getting pricier. Popular Manhattan vendor, Soho Trees, located on the corner of Varick and Canal Street, was selling single 20-foot trees for $6,500 this holiday season, reports the New York Post. The exorbitant rate, at $325 per foot, hasn't actually turned customers away, though. Scott Lechner, sales manager at the tree stand, reveals they've already sold out, as many of the larger firs were purchased by customers with penthouses (see the most expensive penthouse in NYC here), or placed inside building lobbies.

Readers, I'll be honest with you. I don't have $6,500 to throw away on an already-dying tree, and even if I did, I could never justify the excessive cost, no matter how much Christmas spirit I have. However, I do want to let you that not all trees in NYC cost an arm and a leg. Here are some less expensive options to consider.

  • Tyler's Trees, located on 10th Avenue and 44th Street, offers 4' tree starting at $129 and going up in size and price and leveling at around $1,499 for a 16' tree—this price includes delivery and installation.

  • Uptown Christmas Trees which boasts 19 locations between 43rd and 231 Streets, lists 7' to 8' Frasers for around $160 on their website (Note: each tree is priced individually). They also have a bargain section where trees can be bought for under $60. Other offerings include 7' to 10' Victorian Balsams starting at $120, and petite little firs resembling the iconic runt tree from A Charlie Brown Christmas for $10-$15 ( ugh, my heart ❤️🎄).

  • NYC Trees, a city-wide tree delivery service, will deliver and install a tree to your home starting at $119.00 for a 4' Fraser tree to $1,429 for a 16' tree.

  • Christmas Tree Brooklyn will deliver a 5' to 6' tree to your home for around $120, with prices rising to $370 for a 10' to 12' tree.

Hopefully, all New Yorkers still on the hunt for their Christmas pine can find one in their price range. Still looking? There's always a plethora of artificial trees available and some of them are actually getting quite chic, like this pink ombre tree from Michaels.
