When it comes to Christmas movies, there are two kinds: treacly, 'God bless us, everyone!' shows that make you question why you're forced to live with a bunch of savages, and beyond-absurd comedies that remind you why those savages are some of the best people around. A Christmas Story's solidly in the latter camp. It's so spot-on in its depiction of the unbridled longing for that perfect holiday gift-in Ralphie, the star's case, that's a red rider BB gun-and the injustices of being a kid whose parents just don't understand ("You'll shoot your eye out!" they protest), that it's become a cult classic over the years-to the point that it's sparked an annual, 24-hour marathon of the film every Christmas Eve on TBS.

In honor of the movie (and the invariable binge-session you'll have, even though many fans can already quote half of it from memory), we paid homage to one of its most iconic scenes: The infamous leg lamp Ralphie's Dad receives, which he deemed a "major award" and proudly displayed it in the front window of his house-to his wife's horror.

Plus, we know you'll be whipping up Christmas cookies this holiday season, and there's no better way to stand out from the crowd of classic chocolate chip and basic snowman cookies than with a platter of these gams, which some very astute people may deem hotter than "electric sex" and "indescribably beautiful." (And they'd be right, of course.)

You can make your own sugar cookie dough from scratch, or take a shortcut, like we did: 1/4 cup of flour mixed into any store-bought dough creates cookies that will bake without spreading out. You can buy leg lamp cookie cutters online (or make your own with a 3-D printer, using this model Matt Sargent designed after seeing our video), but we opted for something a little more DIY, creating our own printable template you can cut out and use as a guide for making your own.

Feel free to modify these treats to make them your own. Can't find black cookie icing? Make your own royal icing, or use melted dark chocolate. Out of peanut butter? Regular frosting or Marshmallow Fluff will glue that Reese's Big Cup onto the sugar cookie. You've got this.

These cookies are somewhat frag-il-ay, but don't freak out-they're pretty easy to work with, once you get the hang of dragging a toothpick through the icing to create the fishnets. It takes a little time, but it's so. Worth. It!
