As a Christmas movie devotee, I know the genre can sometimes be hit or miss. Funny Christmas movies like Elf and Netflix Christmas movies like The Princess Switch have to walk the fine line of being a holiday-themed movie without actually being about the history of the holiday or getting too corny (although that is a Christmas movie signature, tbh). The beauty of good Hallmark Christmas movies, for example, is that they’re not just for people who celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday. Christmas movies are for everyone who wants to experience some family hijinks and traditions, a sprinkle of holiday magic and, yes, a whole lot of romance. And the Christmas movies on Hulu are no exception.
Hulu has a shockingly large collection of holiday-appropriate films, so much so that it can be overwhelming to sort through on your own. How are you supposed to tell the bad Christmas movies from the good kind of bad Christmas movies?! Read Cosmopolitan, duh! Like I said, I am somewhat of a Christmas movie connoisseur. I love the magical realism of a body-switch comedy, like A Christmas Switch, and the sweet romance of The Holiday. Hell, I even love watching a woman time travel to get back with her ex (Back to Christmas) or a recently dumped woman fall in love with her ex’s cousin (Christmas with the Campbells). If any of those sound appealing to you, you're in the right place.
It's Christmas Carol! (2012)
A Christmas movie starring Carrie Fisher as a dead woman who comes back as a ghost to haunt her former employee on Christmas? SIGN. ME. UP.
The Holiday (2006)
The Nancy Meyers Christmas classic, The Holiday, is one of the only not made-for-TV movies on this list. It stars Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz as two women recovering from heartbreak who decide to exchange homes for the holiday to see how life is on the other side of the pond (Winslet’s character travels to LA, Diaz’s to a cottage in England). This movie is less whimsical holiday magic and more rom-com than your average Christmas movie, but it’s every bit as fantastic.
Christmas With the Campbells (2022)
When Jess (Brittany Snow) is dumped by her boyfriend (Alex Moffat) right before Christmas, she gets a surprise invite to her ex’s family Christmas because her ex isn’t going. What starts as a sweet family Christmas soon gets messy when Jess finds herself falling for her ex’s cousin, played by Justin Long. Don’t you just love a Christmas mess?
Happiest Season (2020)
Kristen Stewart stars in Happiest Season, which follows a woman who brings her girlfriend home for the first time over the holidays. The catch: She hasn't yet told her family she's queer. Cue all the drama!
Under the Christmas Tree (2021)
For another queer Christmas rom-com, watch Under the Christmas Tree, which tells the story of two women whose paths unexpectedly cross after Charlie, a "tree whisperer," finds the perfect Christmas tree for the Maine governor's holiday celebration in marketing exec Alma's backyard.
Dear Santa (2020)
Okay, this one is more documentary than movie, but it's well worth the watch, promise. Through it, you can learn all about the US Postal Service's Operation Santa program, which began over 100 years ago in order to respond to children's letters to Santa Claus. Cute!!
A Christmas Movie Christmas (2019)
In this v meta movie, a Christmas-obsessed woman and her cynical sister wake up to find themselves starring in their own holiday rom-com, complete with a cute small town and handsome love interests.
12 Pups of Christmas (2019)

Christmas Crush revolves around a holiday fanatic who makes a wish for her cute neighbor to fall in love with her...never expecting that another neighbor will end up falling for her instead as a result. Yiiikes.

My Santa (2016)
Matthew Lawrence (remember him??) stars in this one, which revolves around a single mom who falls for a mall Santa, not realizing he's actually the son of the real Santa Claus. Plot twist!
Girlfriends of Christmas Past (2016)
What happens when three women discover they share the same cheating ex? They team up to get revenge during an upcoming holiday retreat ofc. Basically, it's John Tucker Must Die with a side of Christmas.
A Cinderella Christmas (2016)
Yep, the classic Cinderella story has been retold about a hundred too many times, but this Christmas twist on the classic tale (following a college student who meets a celebrity at a holiday masquerade) is still pretty cute.
Angels in the Snow (2015)
In Angels in the Snow, a family on the verge of collapse gets a chance to reconcile and repair when they're trapped together by a blizzard during the holidays.
A Dogwalker's Christmas Tale (2015)
Mean Girls'Jonathan Bennett stars in this one, which revolves around (you guessed it) a dog walker who tries to save a local dog park from a land developer's demolition plans, and he recruits the developer's assistant to help him out.
A Merry Friggin' Christmas (2014)
Okay, but why has no one ever heard of this movie? Starring Robin Williams, Joel McHale, and Lauren Graham, among others, this dark comedy is all about a man who's forced on a road trip with his estranged father after realizing he left all his family's presents at home.
Back to Christmas (2014)
Yep, we had to include at least one time-traveling holiday romance. Back to Christmas revolves around a woman who's magically transported back to the Christmas before her canceled wedding, giving her a romantic redo with her ex-fiancé.
Naughty & Nice (2014)
Starring Haylie Duff, this cheesy rom-com is all about a cynical radio DJ who gets sent from LA to small-town Colorado right before the holidays, where he finds himself butting heads with his new partner...though ofc, it isn't long before sparks are flying.
Christmas Belle (2013)
What's that? More Haylie Duff, you say? Ask and you shall receive!! In this one, she plays a woman who must spend her Christmas organizing the sale of an old mansion, which is made more difficult by the aloof owner. But as you can probably guess, he eventually warms up to her.
Holly's Holiday (2013)
This flick follows what happens when an advertising exec makes a Christmas wish for the perfect partner...and inadvertently brings a mannequin to life in the process.
