When it comes to Christmas shopping, there are two main groups of people: those who finished their gift buying by the end of November, and those who are frantically scrabbling around during the last few days before the big day.

And if you’ve clicked on this article, it’s likely you’re in the latter camp.

However, as long as you are clued up on the final deadlines for shopping online in time for Christmas, then we think it’s fine to put the task to one side for the moment and enjoy your first mince pies and festive movie binges on Netflix instead.

So, we’ve researched all the key online retailers we’ll be shopping from this year and found out the final date you can order from them before they are unable to guarantee Christmas delivery.

Burn these dates into the back of your mind and then get back to picking out all the Maltesers from the bumper Christmas Celebrations box.

The final dates for online gift buying in 2020

John Lewis | Shop here

John Lewis shoppers using standard delivery will have to make their order by 18 December to ensure it arrives on time.

The retailer offers free standard delivery as long as you spend more than £50, excluding large items being delivered to non UK-mainland locations.

Shoppers can also get next-day delivery for £6.95, but you'll have to do it by 8pm on 22 December to get it in time for Christmas.

The last date to get your M&S order in time for Christmas depends on what you're planning to buy.

If you're ordering a hamper for standard delivery, you'll have to make your order by 5pm on 17 December.

This costs £3.50, or you can get it delivered for free if you spend more than £50.

Alternatively, you can get next-day delivery for £4.99, if you order by 12pm on 22 December.

M&S also offers free next-day delivery on flowers, but you'll need to make your order by 12pm on 23 December to get them on time.

Last year, shoppers had to order by 6pm on 18 December for standard delivery, while the cut-off date for next-day deliveries was at 6pm on 23 December.

Shoppers at Currys PC World have to make their orders by 19 December to get free standard delivery in time for Christmas.

The retailer then accepts Christmas orders until 22 December, but you'll have to pay £5 for the speedier delivery service.

The e-commerce giant hasn't yet confirmed its order deadline for this Christmas, but least year it was on 22 December for standard delivery.

Amazon orders of £20 or more qualify for free delivery on certain items, which are flagged up when you purchase. While those subscribing to Amazon Prime can receive all orders the next day free of charge up until Christmas Eve.

Argos hasn't yet confirmed its deadline for Christmas orders, so we'll update this article once we hear back.

Last year, customers were able to make orders up to noon on Christmas Eve to receive delivery before 6pm, which cost £3.95.

The online fashion retailer has set a last-order date for £4 standard delivery on 20 December.

Alternatively, if you spend more than £35, you'll get your order delivered for free.

If you're doing some last-minute shopping, you can order items on 23 December and still get them on time, but it will cost you £5.95.

For £9.95 a year, regular Asos shoppers can get Premier Delivery, which gives you free unlimited deliveries with no minimum order value.

The last order date for Boohoo shoppers looking for the cheapest delivery option is on 22 December, with standard delivery costing £3.99.

The absolute last order date for Christmas is at 11pm on 23 December, but you'll have to pay £5.99 for the trouble.

Carphone Warehouse | Shop here

The retailer, owned by Dixons Carphone, hasn't yet confirmed the cut-off date for guaranteed Christmas delivery.

In the meantime you'll be pleased to know that standard delivery is free, or you can get next-day delivery for £5.

Matalan | Shop here

Matalan hasn't yet confirmed its last order dates for this year, but standard home delivery costs £3.95 and should take between seven and ten days to arrive.

If you spend more than £50, you'll get the items delivered for free.

The last Christmas order date for home deliveries by Next is typically at 10pm on 22 December, which costs £3.99.

However, if you're ordering furniture, keep in mind you'll need to place your order by 16 December if you're based in England, Scotland or Wales.

While Next shoppers in Northern Ireland will need to place their orders by 9 December.

This high-end retailer has set its last order date for the cheapest delivery at 3pm on 21 December, with standard delivery setting you back £5.

Last-minute shoppers will have to order by 3pm on 23 December for express delivery, which costs £8.

If you're ordering a hamper, keep in mind you'd need to make your order by 3pm on 21 December, but you don't have to pay extra for delivery.

House of Fraser | Shop here

The retailer hasn't yet confirmed its final Christmas delivery order dates for 2020, but last year it was on 19 December for standard delivery, which costs £4.99.

Shoppers who wanted next day deliveries could pay £6.99 for a speedier service on orders booked by 5pm on Monday to Friday.
