Christine Quinn Explains Why Her Husband Keeps A Low Profile On 'Selling Sunset'

From Women's Health

You can count on almost as much relationship content as there are billion-dollar homes (excuse me, compounds) to lust over on Netflix’s Selling Sunset, and season three is no exception. The range!

One of this season’s central romances is between realtor Christine Quinn and now-husband Christian Richard. A number of the new episodes feature Christine’s wedding planning process as she shops for the perfect gown and finalizes the details for her extravagant gothic winter wonderland affair with swans, fog, bleeding cakes, and carriages. Throughout this season, you’ll catch a few glimpses of Christian, but, for the most part, the millionaire remains in the background, which makes scoping out deets about the guy pretty hard.

Well, that ends now. Christine dished to Women’s Health and answered every question you’ve had about her man and their relationship.

Christine and Christian were set up by a mutual friend.

Since season two opens with Christine’s engagement that she kept on the DL from her friends and castmates, info about anything before that was all speculation. Here's how it went down: According to Christine, the initial connection with Christian was instant. "[He’d] just moved to L.A. from the east coast and we had a mutual friend who insisted on introducing us," she says. "When we finally went on our first date, we hit it off instantly and fell in love quickly."

He retired three years ago.

Before retiring, the 41-year-old tech mogul had a varied business career. "He attended MIT and specializes in engineering of all types including software platforms," Christine explains. He was also part of the creation of the first online food delivery business.

The mansion they live in was Christine’s longtime dream home.

"The house he ended up purchasing was actually my dream home before I even met Christian," Christine says. "I remember prior to meeting him, I would sit in that open house every Sunday and picture myself living there, getting coffee with my husband, and that manifestation came true—I now live in the house that I envisioned myself in with my husband."

Before landing on the four-bedroom and six-bathroom home in the Hollywood Hills, Christine and Christian only looked at two other homes before making their final decision.

These days, renovations on the space have halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but Christine says Christian's made the most of it by essentially building a gym where their living room would be. "My husband started a gym downstairs, so I started working out, and I'm really, really proud of myself," she says.

The couple’s favorite trips have been their spontaneous ones.

One of Christine and Christian’s favorite things to do together is travel, and, of course, it’s always in style complete with private planes and lavish suites. "We love getting up and going with last-minute notice," says Christine. "Our favorite places we’ve been to include Cambodia, Bora-Bora, and anywhere in the south of France."

And for their honeymoon, which coincided with the 2020 New Year, Christine says the two kept up with tradition and "chartered a luxury yacht for two weeks in St. Barth’s."

There’s a reason Christian keeps to the background on the show.

As comfortable as Christine feels onscreen, Christian hasn’t quite taken to the cameras enough to put his personality on full display. "Being on the show for him—he does his best, bless his heart," Christine says. "But he’s definitely really, really shy on camera and around other people he doesn’t know, but with me, he’ll do whatever."

He’s not big on a life of glamour and leaves all that up to Christine.

Those nice duds you see Christian wearing on season three? You have Christine to thank for them. "My husband doesn’t care about fashion at all. I buy him so many amazing designer clothes, and he just wears the same thing over and over and he doesn’t care," Christine says, laughing. "He’s never really cared about the finer things in life or fancy things at all, so he just loves when I do my thing, and he trusts me and knows that I have really great taste. So, he’s always like, 'You do your thing, I trust you. Whatever you pull together, it’s always fabulous.'"

This was the same tone he adopted for their wedding, too. While Christian loved Christine’s idea of closing out the year with a winter wedding, when it came to the many, many details that take over the screen during the season finale, it was mostly Christine's vision. "He loved it, and he just let me do my thing," she explains. "We planned a little bit together," she adds, referring to a scene where he and Christine sit down with her event planner (the same one who pulled together that Britney-Spears inspired engagement party with the zebra). But, for the most part, he put his trust in Christine and loved every minute of it.
