Christine Ohuruogu, Olympic Athlete

Track and field Olympian Christine Ohuruogu gave Britain its first Olympic Gold in the 400-meter event in 2008. The double world champion also claimed silver at the 2012 London Games, and most recently took home bronze in the women's 4 x 400 meter relay at the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio.

Born in 1984, Ohuruogu grew up less than a mile away from what would become the 2012 Olympic Stadium in London. She initially split her time between netball and running as part of the England junior team, but after winning bronze at the 2003 European Junior Championships, she decided to concentrate solely on track. After a year-long competition suspension in 2007, Ohuruogu made a triumphant return to the track less than a month later, taking home gold at the World Championships in Osaka. She has since continued to persevere in her athletic accomplishments.

Ohuruogu received an Honorary Doctorate at the University of East London. As one of eight children, she also dedicates her time to mentoring younger athletes through writing. The Olympian is the author of the children's books series, Camp Gold, about a training school for aspiring runners.
