Christine announced her split from Kody after 25 years of marriage in an Instagram post on November 2, 2021. “After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave,” she said in a statement. “We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. In an interview with In Touch Weekly in January 2024, Christine explained why she and David wanted to film their wedding for Sister Wives. “We were talking about our wedding and things like that. And then just through the discussion he’s like, ‘Look, you have people that have been watching you for 14 years now and they’ve been following your story and now you have this romance and you have everything that you wanted. And I think they would appreciate watching it,’” Christine said.
Though they originally went “back and forth” on whether the wedding would be filmed, Christine explained that David thought her fans “would like watching it.” “I wanted to go to Vegas and go to the KISS place and dress in those big tall things,” David said. “But I knew she wanted her fairytale wedding, and so I wanted to give her what she wanted on that part, too. And I did, too.”
He explained that he knew Christine meant “everything” to Sister Wives viewers, which is why he agreed to have their wedding filmed. “I knew that they wanted to be part of it, and I had no problem with it,” he said. “It was different to see all the cameras and everything and all this stuff going on. I thought we were at a royal wedding, and it was like, ‘Wait a minute, this is my wedding.’ This is weird. Because there was too much attention going on. It was crazy.”
