'She was a friend I was in complete awe of.'

Christina Hendricks honored the late Vivienne Westwood with a touching tribute on social media

After the news of Westwood's death broke earlier today, the Good Girls actress took to Instagram to share a picture that featured herself posing in a burgundy gown and flower crown alongside the iconic British fashion designer. The setting seemed to be her design space.

The actress also shared some sweet words, writing, "I’ve just heard about Vivienne’s passing. It doesn’t seem real. She was larger than life. She was a friend I was in complete awe of. I tried to watch and learn every moment I was with her."

She added in the caption: "She cracked me up with her directness and often terrifying 'I don’t give a f–k-ness'. But she cared so much that she changed the world and kept working to make it better day after day. Nobody has been so unique, so groundbreaking, so innovative. I love you Vivienne."

Westwood passed away at age 81 in Clapham, England, a suburb outside of London, per a statement made via the designer's official Twitter page.

Hendricks' statement concluded with a note of gratitude and a message of support to Westwood's 56-year-old widower, Andreas Kronthaler. "Thank you for everything. My love to you, Andreas."

Following her tribute, fellow fans of Westwood's legacy and those close to Hendricks shared their condolences. Among them was photographer Douglas Friedman, who shared his love for the photo, writing, "GORGEOUS. WOW. LOVE THIS PHOTO❤️," and celebrity hairstylist Gregory Russell who left three heartbroken emojis.

Westwood is survived by her husband and longtime creative partner Andreas Kronthaler and her two children, Ben Westwood, 59, and Joseph Corré, 55.
