It's nearly unheard of to go through a renovation without at least one delay. In a new episode of Christina on the Coast, design expert Christina Hall's clients endured one of the more annoying types of delays: They were sent the bar cabinets and kitchen island countertop they ordered—but both arrived in the wrong colors.

The clients tapped Christina to transform the dated kitchen, living room, and dining room in their Huntington Beach, California, home into a coastal-style, family retreat fit for entertaining loved ones. During the renovation, Christina notified them that there would likely be a two to three-week delay. "Unfortunately, your bar cabinets arrived in the wrong color, and then the island countertop arrived in gray and I know we wanted white…" she told her clients during the episode. "Now we're just waiting for everything to come back correctly, so we're looking at a couple of weeks."

The mix-up appears to be a problem that could've easily been avoided—whether the order was input incorrectly or the vendors made shipping errors. That makes the delay feel like an unnecessary bummer, especially compared to potential big, but unavoidable, renovation issues like discovering and fixing water damage. Luckily, Christina's clients were great sports about the inconvenience. "Obviously, it's not something we want to hear, but we want it done with the materials that we had selected," one of them said. "So it is what it is, unfortunately."

The final result was worth the wait—and the $214,265 price tag. The kitchen now features a big island with adequate seating, ample storage space, and white cabinetry for an airy feel. The open flow through the kitchen to the dining and living rooms makes the overall space feel larger. Pocket doors and a bay window allow sunshine to pour in, allowing everyone in the family to see their home in a different light—even the homeowners' kids put their stamp of approval on the new space!
