After host Anthony Anderson launched the 2024 Emmy Awards with a musical medley, Christina Applegate officially began the ceremony by presenting the first award of the night: supporting actress in a comedy (to Ayo Edebiri for The Bear, natch).

Applegate—whose credits include Married…With Children, Samantha Who? and Dead to Me—was visibly moved by the standing ovation that greeted her entrance. In a red velvet jacket and pants and a crescent-moon necklace, Applegate supported herself with a cane (and a handsome gentleman to escort her, whom she maybe just kept around for his looks. Her words!). She joked that by standing up, the audience was making fun of her disability (Applegate has multiple sclerosis) and cracked, “Body not by Ozempic.” Having appeared on Days of Our Lives as a baby, Applegate has literally grown up on television, and her peers were so happy to see her.

With heart and humor, the actor welcomed the star of The Bear to the stage with, “Ayo, get your ass up here,” before introducing the iconic Carol Burnett, who presented the award for lead actress in a comedy, a category in which Applegate was also nominated. In her introduction, Applegate noted that despite all the talented, famous faces in the crowd, only one had the honor of gracing the walls of Christina Applegate’s home in a framed photo: Burnett.

Applegate has made MS much more visible after her friend Selma Blair helped her receive the correct diagnosis. “I was sitting in Selma’s living room, our children playing, and I told Selma I’d been having this weird tingling in my feet,” Applegate revealed in an interview. “She said, ‘You must get tested for MS.’ [Even my doctor doubted it], but there it was. In essence, because of her, I’m going to have a better quality of life.”
