Christina Aguilera’s piecey updo hair is deliciously 90s grunge

When you think of updos your mind may jump to elegant chignons or classy wedding styles, but let's not forget that the updo can seriously hold its own in the arena of grunge and punk. One look at any popular 90s hair trends will tell you that. Or one look at Christina Aguilera's latest Instagram post, at least.
Xtina is rocking a piecey updo that could have stepped straight off of a 90s grunge album cover. Her bleached tresses are loosely pulled back into a messy fastening that looks like it could well be a claw clip (is anything more 90s?), while long tendrils tumble out from all sides of the undone 'do.
Parted in the centre those tendrils work to frame the face and lean into the 00s peroxide Playboy era. An era further honoured through this look by the fact that her skirt is a pink diamonté handbag. The Birkin bag-inspired skirt has a tag, a lock and a literal handle right above where the fly would be on an ordinary garment, looking like she's about to pick herself up and walk away.
The skirt also drew our attention to those long black and nude nails that fall into the same crux point between girly and grunge, and are going straight on our moodboards. Finished with exaggerated liner and gloss on that Bratz doll pout, Xtina knows exactly what she's doing with this homage to 90s pop punk huns, and she's doing it well.
