Christie Brinkley

Christie Brinkley took to social media this week to share that she was recently diagnosed with skin cancer—but fortunately, she's already on the road to recovery.

The 70-year-old supermodel was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma after asking her doctor about a "little tiny dot" she noticed when applying her makeup one day. After a biopsy revealed the mark was, in fact, cancerous, Brinkley had to undergo surgery to have it removed.

She shared raw photos from the aftermath of the procedure to Instagram on Wednesday, March 13, showing her followers the incision that was made right near her temple on one side of her face.

"The good news for me is we caught the basal cell Carcinoma early," Brinkley wrote in the caption of her post. "And I had great Doctors that removed the cancer and stitched me up to perfection like an haute couture Dior 👍."

Though the photos were rather graphic, Brinkley had good reason for sharing her story with her followers, whom she is now encouraging to be extra proactive by always using sunscreen.

"The good news for you is that all of this can be avoided by being diligent with your sun protection!" she explained. "I got serious a bit late so now for this ole mermaid/gardener, I’ll be slathering on my SPF 30, reapplying as needed, wearing long sleeves and a wide brim hat."

Brinkley also stressed the importance of getting regular checkups with a doctor, which is why she was able to catch the cancer early.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model said she was actually attending a doctor's visit alongside one of her daughters when she asked the doctor to take a look at her own face.

"He took a look and knew immediately it needed a biopsy! He did it then and there!" she added. "So make your own good luck by making that check up appointment today. And slather up my friends!"
