Christian Siriano Paired Swarovski Crystal Freckles With $8 Blue Mascara for His Fall 2019 Show

Christian Siriano is known for letting women shine — and that doesn't just go for the models and celebrities who wear his size-inclusive designs. At his Fall 2019 New York Fashion Week presentation, he also let the women behind the show's beauty look shine, quite literally, with brilliant crystals, polished metal, and vivid color that took his new collection to the next level.

“It sparkles and shines just like the clothes this season,” makeup artist Erin Parsons says of how the bedazzled look she created ties into the pieces by Siriano, who said it would be OK to use rhinestones on the faces of models like Ashley Graham — but she insisted on Swarovski crystals.

“I wanted to create it like a veil. Whenever I do stones I usually do them very organically,” Parsons explains. “It almost feels like freckles or beauty marks.” But while the placement of the crystals may look random, it’s actually exactly the same on each model, having been mapped out in advance.

The rest of the makeup look was done with Maybelline products. "We focused on the Deja Blue Snapscara on top and bottom [lashes]. Curled, curled, curled — not clumpy, but you wanna see it,” Parson says, confident that it’s a totally wearable everyday look. ”It’s just so nice to do a very fresh face and lots of blue mascara." She kept the show's shine going by adding Tattoo Studio Gel Pencil Liner in Sparkling Silver in just the inner corners of the eyes.

With the crystals and lashes serving as the stars of the makeup look, Parsons kept the rest of the face simple with Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation and Loose Finishing Powder, Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer, and FaceStudio Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter, dabbing on just a hint of Made For All Lipstick in Pink-For-Me.

Like Parsons, Rita Remark settled for nothing less than Swarovski crystals when creating the manicure seen on Siriano's models, and she used roughly 110 grams of the iridescent AB variety alongside Licorice nail polish by Essie to create what she calls an “eclipse of crystals.”

“This look was specifically inspired by one of the shoes in [Siriano’s] collection," Remarks says, "a patent black pump with a stripe of aurora borealis crystals across the toe."

The shine beaming from the models' hair wasn't from crystals, but rather from silver chains. "Christian Siriano always wants to do something cool and edgy,” says hairstylist Justine Marjan, and this season’s collection, along with the makeup and nail looks, allowed for hair that marries glossy and industrial vibes.

After prepping with Tresemmé Repair & Protect 7 Pre-Styling Spray and Keratin Smooth Shine Serum, Marjan heat-styled longer-haired models with the GHD Air Hair Dryer and Platinum+ Styler, “We did a tiny braid in the center of the head that we attached clip-on braids to, and we just gathered it into a low ponytail.” That’s when the chains were clipped in and wrapped around the elastic. “It’s really cool because, from the front, there’s no part, and the hair will just be sleek and slicked-back and clean; from the back, there’s that element of surprise."

Somehow, even with crystals, chains, and blue mascara, the overall beauty look read more "too cool" than "too much," and we can't wait to see how it's interpreted in real life.
