Christian Louboutin Embraces Escapism for New ’60s-Inspired Collection

From Chloé to Christian Dior, escapism was a major theme on fashion runways this season — and Christian Louboutin was no exception. Whether you’re looking to escape due to the political atmosphere, inclement weather, or something entirely different, Louboutin is here to help.

With his stunning new ’60s-inspired spring/summer 2017 collection, the legendary “red-sole” designer is inviting you to look back to Swinging London.

Taking cues from the era, Louboutin’s classics are reworked with a mod, Twiggyesque twist. Take, for example, the “Bibaba,” which comes in black patent as well as vibrant yellow suede and features a tall block heel and mod-style Mary Jane strap. The “Bibaba” has a low-heeled version as well — fittingly called the “Bibababy” — and comes in quirky, ’60s-style color-block designs in green, red, and pink. Then there’s the “Strappiflat,” which is exactly what the name implies — a strappy sandal featuring multiple layers of bright yellow or white straps and golden studs.

Finally, there’s the “ShoePeaks” clutch, a handbag whose shape comes from superimposing two classic Louboutin heel styles. The surrealistic design appropriately plays off the craze for psychedelia that permeated the ’60s.
