Chrissy Teigen Won’t Let You Shame Her for Getting Botox When Pregnant

Chrissy Teigen opened up about the difficult aspects of pregnancy, as Chrissy Teigen is wont to do. She shared on Twitter that she receives Botox injections to alleviate her “really really bad pregnancy headaches,” thus damning potential shamers.

Although Botox is most often used for cosmetic purposes, it’s also an FDA-approved treatment for chronic migraines, according to the American Migraine Foundation, who defines “chronic” as experiencing severe headaches on 15 or more days per month. Teigen, who’s pregnant with her third child with husband John Legend, shared that she was “cleared to do neck muscle botox” by her doctor as part of a holistic treatment regimen for her headaches. (“a crazy combo of beta blocker shots and radio wave frequency something something doctor terms” comprise the remainder of her regimen.)

As a welcome reprieve from Teigen’s usual troll-filled comments, so many people tweeted their support for Teigen’s decision.

Many shared that they, too, struggled to find an appropriate treatment for their own chronic headaches, and others said that they couldn’t find a doctor who took their symptoms seriously.

When one woman tweeted that her doctor wouldn’t administer Botox as a migraine treatment while she was pregnant, Teigen clarified that she consulted a neurologist, not a cosmetic dermatologist, as “it’s a lot better and safer because they talk to your OB.” Teigen told another commenter who suffers from migraines that jaw Botox was “life changing” for alleviating her pain related to teeth-grinding.

Love to see the mutual support among Teigen and her followers—really not a bad egg to be found, as far as we can tell. But if there were, Teigen made it abundantly clear that she would “absolutely [not] care.”

Teigen confirmed her pregnancy back in August, following speculation that Legend’s newest music video—which featured a hand-on-belly moment—hinted (or literally pointed) at it.

The pregnancy came as something of a surprise because an initial pregnancy test, which she took before her recent surgery to remove her breast implants, showed up negative. “I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative," she wrote in an August 15th tweet.

We’re so happy Teigen is receiving the treatment she needs right now, and we hope her experience helps other migraine sufferers “see the light,” too. (But not literally.)
