Chrissy Teigen Had a Disastrous Wardrobe Malfunction at a Black-Tie Charity Gala

On Saturday, November 11, Chrissy Teigen attended the star-studded Baby2Baby Gala in a one-shoulder floor-length gown with a thigh-high slit and a number of beaded flowers. It's very pretty, and she looks very pretty in it.

Later, however, she must have bent over too quickly or something, because the back split all the way open. The zipper just completely pulled apart, nearly to Teigen's butt, and she put the evidence on Instagram Stories with an “Oh lol.” You can see the screenshot here.

Now, I absolutely believe that this happened organically and by accident. It's a tight dress and the world is an imperfect place. It's not a fake-out attempt to be funny for clout. It's an omen. Old Chrissy is back.

Remember when Chrissy Teigen was, like, always doing this stuff? Or more accurately, stuff like this was always happening to her? As she transitioned from model-slash-John-Legend's-wife to mom-slash-cookbook-author, she cleverly carved out a niche for herself in the celebrity world as a funny and relatable online presence. Throughout the second Obama administration and into the Trump years, she was consistently sharp on Twitter, and what might have come off as oversharing from other stars just made her seem like she was keeping it real.

Teigen was clumsy as a rom-com heroine. She got hit in the face by an umbrella on live TV, and it became a meme. Dwyane Wade fell on her during an NBA game, and it became a meme. Her assistant roasted her for a wardrobe malfunction on Snapchat. She was hilariously starstruck by Beyoncé. And she was not like other models. She loved snacks. She was just like us.

If nothing funny happened to her on any given day, she used her platform to roast, mostly her husband. She roasted him for becoming an EGOT winner. She trolled him for playing Jesus in Jesus Christ, Superstar! She live-tweeted his performance in Jesus Christ, Superstar! And a livestream performance. She mocked his Super Bowl commercial. She trolled the Grammys. She trolled her husband's literal Grammy. And his Sexiest Man Alive cover. Twice. And we loved it.

When Teigen's posts attracted their own trolls, she built a reputation as a clapback queen. “Another day, another epic clapback,” we once wrote. She had the best responses. Like this one to Kid Rock. Or this one to a body-shamer.

When actual backlash got too bad, she'd apologize. Or go private. Or delete thousands of tweets. She left. She came back. She called out creeps. She developed a reputation as such a Trump hater that, when Biden was elected, he followed her.

And now…she's split open the back of her dress. She's quirky on Insta. The winds have changed direction. There's something in the air. Can you feel it? The Teigen bellwether is a-ringin'. What could it portend? Well, anything. I don't know. But I'm on the lookout.
