Chrissy Teigen Eats "Night Eggs" to Help Her Sleep—And Twitter Doesn't Get It

If you have an internet connection, you’re probably somewhat familiar with the personal idiosyncracies and eating habits of former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and Lip Sync Battle host Chrissy Teigen. That’s likely either because of her series of Cravings cookbooks or her highly unfiltered Twitter account, where she routinely dishes on all things food.

Recently, though, she revealed what might go down as her weirdest eating habit yet, which involves a little something called… night eggs.

While it was pretty incidental to the focus of the tweet, you can’t just drop a phrase like “night eggs” into a post and expect your followers to follow up. And follow up they did. In the process Teigen explained that she “can’t sleep without being overly full,” hence her taking two hard boiled eggs to bed, which she eats randomly in the middle of the night to satisfy her hunger and lull her back to sleep.

As it turns out, Night Eggs have been a Teigen habit for a little while. She first mentioned them in early December of 2019. At that point, she admits that the habit is a bit gross.

At another point earlier in January, she mentions that husband John Legend sometimes assists with the preparation.

It’s an odd habit, to be sure. But with Teigen going on to explain that she (unwillingly) wakes up roughly four times in the middle of the night for half an hour, it sounds like she’s entitled to whatever coping method she thinks will bring the release of sleep.

Of course, as some followers pointed out, her insistence on Night Eggs could in fact be contributing to her irregular sleeping patterns. At the very least, Night Eggs seem to directly clash with Dr. Oz’s anti-breakfast manifesto, which chastises late-night eating.

So should you adopt Night Eggs into your own eating routine? Probably not. But if you have an opportunity to be fed hard boiled eggs by EGOT-winning musician John Legend, it’s kind of hard to say no.
