Chris Pratt may be hilarious, but the talented actor is also seriously focused and knows what he wants. So it’s not a huge surprise to learn that he’s willing to sacrifice for his craft. What is surprising to learn, however, is just how much he’s willing to sacrifice.

During an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Pratt and the host talked about how they hadn’t seen each other since they shared the screen in the 2005 cult classic Strangers with Candy movie.

Though Pratt was an up-and-comer at the time, Colbert didn’t realize just how much he wanted that role until he explained it in their interview.

As if seeing a young, blonde, Chris Pratt sporting a little mullet in the interview’s throwback clip wasn’t enough of a shocker, hearing what he went through for the role is hard to fathom.

He explained, “Did you know that that movie cost me $3,000 to be in?”

Colbert, like the rest of us, was obviously surprised and wanted an explanation.

Pratt explained that the role was filming on the east coast and they were only hiring locally. So he realized that if he wanted the role (which he did), he’d have to basically become a local east coaster (at least temporarily). The relocation costs were hefty but he said he would have basically broke even if he didn’t have to go back to Los Angeles for legal reasons.

Pratt explained, “I had to go to court. Because I had a warrant out for my arrest. Which is pretty awesome to say.”

Apparently, it was for an unpaid insurance ticket, but that’s still pretty badass.

Between the flights and the relocation, Pratt said the movie ended up cost him some hefty dough, but was totally worth it for him since he got the chance to work with some comedy legends like the young Colbert, Amy Sedaris, and even Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The movie was based on the Comedy Central series that only ran for (a magnificent) three seasons between April 1999 through October 2000.

Despite the fact that the role wasn’t exactly a career-maker for Pratt, he has no regrets about his commitment to the opportunity. Besides, it would only be a few years before he’d become one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood, so it was obviously well worth the experience and financial investment.
