Chris Pine Is the Director and Star of “Poolman”

Chris Pine's directorial debut swum the Atlantic Ocean from Toronto to London during its 2023 festival run, and it will now finally dive into theaters on May 10.

Poolman, following a hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher, tells the tale of a man who spends his days tending to the pool in an apartment block in sunny LA where one day, he uncovers a water heist, setting him on a mission to protect his precious LA.

Not only does Pine direct and co-write the film, but he also stars alongside fellow cast members Annette Bening, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Chris Pine, DeWanda Wise, Danny DeVito, John Ortiz, Ray Wise and Juliet Mills.

The first trailer has landed, showcasing the off-beat narrative and quirky characters soaking in the sunny backdrop of Los Angeles.

Critics have not gone wild for Poolman, disregarding it as "an unfunny spoof of neo-noir thrillers" that would be "one of the worst films in any year it came out".

It landed 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, with only six critics out of 26 giving it a fresh rating.

Still, it is all set for its theatrical release this Spring, and it'll be up to audiences to decide whether Poolman sinks or swims.
