Happy birthday Chris Hemsworth!

The Thor star turned 40 today, and celebrated the big four-oh by surfing Australia's Byron Bay.

He paddled out with his younger brother, Liam Hemsworth, and friend, retired pro surfer Owen Wright.

We've covered Chris' love for surfing before.

Photos in a new article today in People magazine above show him wearing a wetsuit and carrying a Mayhem quad with a squash tail.

The article also has a shot of Liam, a regular footer, going front side looking like he's trying to pull into a barrel.

Chris' recent surf sessions have been covered by the media extensively. And according to the trail of pics, it looks like both brothers can actually surf pretty well.

Chris had a wave pool session in late July at Alaïa Bay at the Wavegarden-powered wavepool at the foot of the Swiss alps.

In April, we reported that Thor was hanging out with Kelly Slater, tow surfing behind a boat.

Back in March, he took a surf trip to Bali and posted a photo of himself hitting the lip on a small left.

He also kicked off the new year with a trip to Tavarua Island in Fiji, where his kids surfed too.

And in a recent interview for GQ in June, Chris talked at length about his love for surfing.

“I’ve always loved surfing,” he said in the interview. “It’s one of the few things that holds my attention completely and in its entirety.”

Later on in the article, he told GQ, "There’s a cleansing every time I get in the water. If I’m having some sort of inner conflict or turmoil, it’s the one place I go. There’s a feeling of starting again.”
