It feels like forever since we last saw Thor Odinsson, Asgard's God of Thunder, on our screens—but the wait is almost over. The first full trailer for the fourth installment in the franchise, Thor: Love and Thunder, dropped this week, and while it might feel a little light on plot, it is rich in vibes.

Thor's last MCU appearance was in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, the epic conclusion to the decade-long Infinity Saga which saw him and the other Avengers dealing with the aftermath of The Snap. Chris Hemsworth in particular portrayed a very different version of his character than anything fans had seen before, and donned a prosthetic belly to depict what quickly became dubbed "Fat Thor." While his thiccer physique in the film is the subject of some pretty lazy gags, Thor's bodily transformation was also a visual signifier of his mental state.

As the Love and Thunder trailer indicates, however, Thor is in a different place yet again, and in the majority of the new footage he is in typical superhero shape. One brief moment, however, provides viewers with a glimpse of how he bounced back, showing Thicc Thor working out intensely, using a pair of huge, heavy chains as battle ropes. It's a perfectly in-character image (Thor's superhuman strength means those chains make the perfect workout accessory), as well as a neat sight gag: the chains look like they are attached to the skeleton of some enormous, ancient alien being. Because of course Thor, the lovable jock of the cosmos, would pick an eldritch entity's graveyard to be his gym.

When it comes to burning fat and building strength, which it seems are Thor's priorities in this particular sequence, battle ropes are a good option: they're a full-body torcher which will challenge both arms as well as your back, chest, legs, and core. Out here in the real world, meanwhile, Hemsworth has been using sled pulls and bodyweight workouts to build lean mass.
